Properties: Colorless, transparent liquid. Pour point -139-140°C, boiling point 63.5°C, relative density 0.6731 (20/4°C), refractive index 1.3837 (20°C), flash point -26°C. 1-Hexene is soluble in alcohol, ether, benzene, petroleum ether, and chloroform, but insoluble in water.
Uses: It is an important α-olefin. It is a key raw material for the production of high-density polyethylene (HDPE), linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), and polyolefin elastomers (POE), significantly improving their tensile strength, impact resistance, and puncture resistance, making them suitable for packaging films, agricultural mulch films, and pressure-resistant pipes. It is used in the synthesis of high-value-added products such as adipic acid and olefin sulfonates, and is an important intermediate in the production of environmentally friendly plasticizers, detergents, and surfactants. It serves as a starting material in fragrance synthesis and dye manufacturing, used to adjust color and improve product performance. As a raw material for synthetic lubricants, it has a low pour point, high flash point, and excellent high-temperature oxidation resistance, making it suitable for the automotive, machinery, and aerospace industries. It also shows potential in new energy materials (such as CO₂ capture), bio-based materials, and specialty chemicals, and is also an industrial solvent and pharmaceutical raw material. It is also an intermediate in the production of a variety of other fine and functional chemicals, including emulsifiers, leather treatment agents, rust inhibitors, fabric finishing agents, and paper chemicals.
